Home Screen in Android

In last two posts, we came across the Introduction & the Features of Android OS. In this post, let us know the Home screen & the available features there.
Home screen consists of a Status bar at top of the screen which is divided into two parts.
-----> The left part shows the notifications of SMS's, mails, low disk space, programs pinned to the status bar, updates on the programs installed in the mobile. To see the notifications, drag the screen from top to bottom by pressing/tapping it with the finger. After viewing the notifications, we can clear them by tapping on the clear option.
-----> The right part shows the phone mode (whether in Silent/Vibrate), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G, EDGE, GPS, phone signal strength, battery indicator, time.
We can even activate/deactivate the programs like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, Data connection & change the mobile modes directly by dragging the status bar to the bottom.
The bottom screen consists of phone applications based on the phone model, mostly phone, contacts, home, messaging, search. We can add or remove the programs at any time. Some mobiles may contain menu, home & back options in the bottom of the screen. Some mobiles contain those buttons externally.
As icons in Windows, Android also supports shortcuts on home screen for the programs we use the most.
  * To add shortcuts, press on the screen for 3 secs where you get a popup window asking shortcuts, widgets, live wallpapers, wallpapers to add. Add whatever you want...:-)
  * To remove the shortcut icons from the home screen, press on the icon for 3 secs which allows us to move it. Drag the icon to the top of the screen where you can see a recycle bin & drop in it.

The settings & the search button varies based on the program opened. These are the details on home screen. Let us know about the settings in my next post. Keep following & share if you like it...:-) Thank you.......

Android Features

Apart from phone calls, camera, browser, applications, different wireless technologies, Mobile users expect more from their mobiles. Android provides most of the features in their OS. But the cellphone companies according to the mobile price inserts the features in their mobiles. In high end mobiles, we can have all the features of Android.
Android supports VGA, 2D, 3D Graphics in big screen mobiles & tablets. We can use SQ Lite Relation Database for data management for different applications in this OS. Android supports GSM, CDMA, EDGE, IDEN, EVDO, LTE, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wimax UMTS connectives. Also supports threaded SMS & MMS messaging, different global languages.

Different media types supported by Android:

Video: WebM, H.263, H.264, 3GP, MP4 & .mkv, .avi (by using VPlayer app).
Audio: AMR, AMR-WB, AAC, HE-AAC, MP3, MIDI, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, WAV
Image: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP

When connected to the internet, by using RTP/RTSP, HTML5, Adobe Flash streaming, HTTP Live streaming, we can play audio & video from different websites & streaming applications. Android also supports Multi-Touch facility.
Most of the android apps were prepared in java programming language with the extension .apk. But android doesn't contain Java Virtual Machine. So, the java apps prepared by java byte code with extensions .jar & .jad cant work in android. We should install third party java supported environment to install java apps. Android  supports A2DP bluetooth technology where we can hear not only the calls but also the audio & video played in the mobile by using bluetooth headset.
Android supports Video cameras, Touch screens,GPS, Accelerometers, Gyroscopes, Barometers, Magnetometers, special gaming controls, Proximity, Pressure sensors, Thermometers, accelerated 3D graphics. It also supports voice search facility.

Now say, why shouldn't we use Android rather than regular OS's? For a normal user these features are morethan enough. If, still you are not using Android based mobile, dont be late, get a new one to enjoy the features.

Let us know the android options in my next post. Keep following ......:-)

Android Introduction

Every mobile will have an Operating System. Upto now Nokia, Sony Ericsson mobiles used Symbian OS in their mobiles. Apple used its own OS by name iOS in their mobiles, iPads, iPods. Windows also released an OS for mobiles by name Windows Mobile Mango, recently by name Windows 8.
Android, Inc. is a company started by Andy Rubin and his friends in 2003. Further it was took over by Google and with the help of differt hardware & software companies established a new group by name Open Handset Alliance. 84 hardware, software & telecommunications companies are partners in this alliance.
Android OS was prepared on the basis of Linux Kernel. Other programming codes, libraries, API's written in C language, Apache Harmony based Java compatible libraries also used in the preparation of this OS.
As we already have different OS's, why should we use Android? What are the extra features we get? Want to know? Read in my next post..... Thank You :-)
